In 2016, our Sustainability Coordinator at the time, Allison Jenks, discovered “reusable pallet wraps” and “reusable pallet bands” through “UseReusables,” a program managed by StopWaste.org based out on the East Bay. Allison immediately introduced pallet wraps to our main corporate warehouse in 2016 and although they weren’t a huge hit at first, we gathered extensive staff feedback in 2017, and did more research, ultimately finding a user-friendly reusable pallet wrap made from 60-80% recycled content, made in the U.S.A., through a company called REUSA WRAPS. They even color-coded different sizes so that staff are easily and efficiently able to identify the wrap size when not in use.

The wraps have been a great investment for us. Very durable and trustworthy since we rely on one wrap holding together 720 dozen eggs loose on a pallet in transport. Moving 10,000 dozens a day on bumpy roads with no accidents, the wraps doing their job, keeping my eggs safe. Benefits: ROI was 3.5 months Reduced plastic waste of 10,500 lbs (2,560,000 sq ft) a year. Savings approx $21,000 a year. Again, very satisfied with the purchase of the reusable wraps.

. ..they have certainly offset our plastic consumption and spending significantly. Durability has been really good overall. We use them weekly, and we have some wraps that have been with the company for 7+ years. We use them for all in house transportation between buildings, and I highly recommend them.

Best of all, the wraps SAVE MONEY….”

A few years ago we took a look at how we went to market with our deliveries (mostly rural area) and decided to pull order by account and deliver with a bulk trailer delivery system. The plan was, in doing this, we would put some labor in the warehouse and eliminate some of the need for extra helpers on the trucks. Plus, this would speed up the delivery process in the market.
After doing this for a couple of years, we noticed all the expense of having to purchase shrink wrap, which was coming back on the truck balled up or stuffed between pallets. The plastic ended up in our dumpster and eventually the landfill. We were spending about $15,000 annually on shrink wrap and all we were doing was throwing that money away. It wasn’t but a couple of weeks later that we were at a trade show in Las Vegas and we ran into Rich Sklena and REUSA-WRAPS. This was exactly what we were looking for! After speaking with him at length we decided this was worth looking into.
After we returned, we sat down and figured out how many and what sizes of Wraps we needed. We figured to have a cost saving over the next couple of years of $25,000 -$30,000. There was some trial and error when we first started…but now we are 100% into using REUSA-WRAPS and our drivers and warehouse workers absolutely love them.
I don’t see us ever going back to throwing money away for shrink wrap. If anyone out there is looking for a solution to getting rid of shrink wrap, wants to save money and go green, REUSA-WRAPS reusable pallet wraps are the way to go.
